Description
Too much or too little? Either way, the Thai economy is constrained by this largely overlooked resource with demand exceeding supply. Freshwater resources are under huge pressure from over-abstraction and pollution, yet demand increases. Meanwhile communities and businesses discharge pollution threatening marine life, the food chain and the natural protections to climate change. Inefficient and expensive infrastructure results in water being dumped and lost after often sub-standard treatment. Water reuse is prohibitively expensive but if solutions become available for affordable, safe and reliable reuse, the impact on the local economy from water, food & energy security will be substantial. This is possible now - it’s time to re-set our relationship with water.
Our Speaker:
James Lander is co-founder of ALGAESYS, a company delivering decarbonized circular water solutions and resource up-cycling using compact affordable nature-based solutions. The company is based in Portugal with subsidiaries in Australia and the UK, and now expanding into MENA and Southeast Asia. James is no stranger to Thailand – he was Country Manager for Black & Veatch (1999-2005), Co-Chair of AMCHAM Environmental, Social, and Governance Council, and Founder of Utility Business Alliance. He has also spent many years in China working for the World Bank, and for Veolia Water serving the iron & steel industry. After a stint in the offshore wind energy industry and a life science start-up, he returned to water on a mission to turn the industry inside-out.
