Description
On February 19, 2019, Thailand unexpectedly became the first country in Asia to legalize medical cannabis. Since then, there has been notable regulatory progress as the government set some ground rules for the country’s nascent cannabis industry. However, we have also seen occasional mixed signals from regulators with the promulgation of sometimes contradictory measures, leaving the industry in a state of limbo. Adding to the uncertainty, the COVID-19 outbreak in Thailand has seized the attention of authorities and has the business community reeling as operators try to regroup and press on.
This video conference is a timely and helpful opportunity to assess the situation regarding the cannabis industry in Thailand and gain insight into how the industry can be expected to develop from here. The presentation will follow the chronology of the announcements, corrections, and regulatory turns, thereby laying out what’s been done, what’s left to do, and a projection of when Thailand could eventually get there.
