About the speaker:
Matthew Perkins is Economic Affairs Officer at the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP). With over a decade of experience in his role at ESCAP, Mr. Perkins focuses on using data science for environment and development issues, specializing in air pollution. He obtained his bachelor's degree in computer science from the University of Maryland, and his master's degree in project management from Western Carolina University. His primary focus areas are smart cities and air pollution. In 2023, he was an integral part of the adoption of the Regional Action Program on Air Pollution, which was ratified by ESCAP Member Countries in May. Recently, he led the development of machine learning tools for identifying air pollution sources at the local level throughout Southeast Asia. Before his career in intergovernmental cooperation, Matthew was a software developer in the private sector.
