Gender equality leads to good business: Where are we now and what is next?

Do we still need to focus on promoting gender equity in the private sector?

A McKinsey report in 2018 found that companies in the top-quartile for gender diversity on executive teams were 21 percent more likely to outperform on profitability and 27 percent more likely to have superior value creation. Thailand scores well on women in senior positions relative to the Asia-Pacific average, but opportunities remain to improve business performance in other areas of gender equality. 

AMCHAM in partnership with UN Women and Kenan is pleased to present this event, highlighting why companies that advance a gender inclusive business culture are reaping the benefits, not only of a more productive and innovative workplace, but also better marketplace decisions and ultimately improving their bottom line.

UN Women will provide a global and regional perspective, including how increasing women's participation is crucial to business success in upper middle income countries. Kenan will present insights on the gender landscape in Thailand, and how their partnership with UN Women on the WeEmpowerAsia program is supporting companies to improve their gender business practices through implementation of the Women's Empowerment Principles (WEPs). Citibank, a recent Thailand WEPs signatory, will share examples of the positive gender actions they are adopting to benefit their employees, their business partners, and their customers.

Our Speakers:
Katja Freiwald, Regional Programme Manager, WeEmpowerAsia - Katja leads UN Women's commitment under the women's economic empowerment and migration focus in Asia and the Pacific. She oversees WeEmpowerAsia, a UN Women programme funded by and in partnership with the European Union. Having worked in the private sector for more than 15 years, Katja was Unilever's Director of Global Partnerships and Advocacy for Women's Economic Empowerment, Inclusive Business and Enhancing Livelihoods before she joined UN Women in 2019. Katja frequently serves as a speaker, panelist, and member of several advisory boards, including Dharma Life, a social enterprise improving rural life in India through female entrepreneurship, and Amfori, a global business association for open and sustainable trade.

Suvipha Chaladkid, Manager, Business and Economic Development, Kenan Foundation Asia -
Suvipha is a development professional with 12 years experience in the sustainable development field at Kenan, with a background covering the private sector, government, and civil society programs. She has worked on a range of corporate-funded development projects, with expertise in business and economic development, community development, and education, particularly in financial literacy, entrepreneurship skills development, and consulting services. She is experienced in conducting training and curriculum development to economically empower Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Thailand, including those from traditionally marginalized communities, with the skills needed to build successful small businesses in the modern and digital economy.

Pathomporn Hannarkin, Country Human Resources Officer, Citibank N.A. Pathomporn was appointed Country Human Resource Officer of Citi Thailand in 2014. In this position, she is responsible for human resources management for Citibank and its affiliates in Thailand. Pathomporn has over 30 years of Human Resource (HR) experience in the banking industry, 24 out of which are with Citi. Prior to her current role, Pathomporn has held various senior roles such as Senior HR Advisor, HR Service & Mobility Head, HR Risk & Control and, Talent & Career Development Head. Pathomporn holds a degree in Arts from Chiang Mai University.
