Yonok Foundation was founded in 1988 by Dr. Nirund Jivasantikarn, a visionary and social entrepreneur, to support education, youth, and civic affairs in Thailand and to empower underprivileged Thais and future leaders through education. Yonok was chaired by Dr. Supachai Panitchpakdi, former Director-General of World Trade Organization. In 1988 Yonok collaborated with its sister foundation, the American-Thai Foundation, to establish Yonok University (Nation Univ. since 2012), providing youths with access to quality higher education in their home region.
Yonok has also made social change through programs such as scholarships, literacy campaigns, and educational/cultural exchanges with universities in the U.S. and other countries. Yonok regularly hosts Stanford University concert tours of Thailand, including in 2013, 2015, and 2017. Working with American-Thai Foundation in the U.S, Yonok runs Teach Thailand Corps, which empowers Thais with English proficiency and other skills/subjects by recruiting passionate graduates of American universities to teach in underserved schools.
