AMCHAM is delighted to welcome U.S. Embassy Visa Chief Leah George and Vice Consul Amyre Brandom-Skinner to speak directly to our audience. This presentation will cover F and J student visas; how to collect the necessary documentation; the timeline you should allow yourself to prepare; and how to avoid common pitfalls.

All students or parents of students planning to study in the United States are encouraged to attend. After the presentation, attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions directly through a moderated Q&A session.

About the Speakers:  

Leah George, Visa Chief, U.S. Embassy Bangkok. Prior to coming to post, Leah served 5 years in Tijuana as Visa Chief and Deputy American Citizens Services Chief. She served as Consular Section Chief in Suva, Fiji and Lilongwe, Malawi. In Washington, Leah worked for Bureau of Consular Affairs. She was also posted to Tel Aviv, and Guadalajara. Leah earned a BA in History at Columbia University and a Master of Social Work at N.Y.U.  Prior to joining the U.S. Department of State, Leah worked as a forensic social worker on death penalty cases, and for the New York City Fire Department’s Employee Assistance Program after 9/11. Leah is a mother of five.

Amyre Brandom-Skinner, Vice Consul, U.S. Embassy Bangkok. Amyre is a graduate of Columbia University in the City of New York. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication from Xavier University of Louisiana and plans to leverage her Masters degree from the School of Professional Studies’ Negotiation and Conflict Resolution program during her career at the U.S. State Department. Her array of professional experience includes interning with Congresswoman Joyce Beatty (OH-3), U.S. Embassy Ghana in the Public Affairs Section, Director of the Office of Public Engagement of the U.S. Cedric Richmond, and the New Orleans’ Citizens Diplomacy Council. Amyre is passionate about education, global equity for women and girls, the interconnectivity of the African diaspora amongst cultures around the world and working within communities to advance people to people communications as a core diplomatic strategy. Her recent accolades include being selected as a 2021 Charles B. Rangel International Affairs Fellow, 2021 Columbia University HBCU Fellow, and a Leadership Alliance PhD Research-Intensive Fellow. She is also a proud Detroit, Michigan native.
