About the Speaker:
H.E. Arkhom Termpittayapaisith has served as Minister of Finance since 2020. Prior to this, he served in the Ministry of Transport for 5 years, as Minister from 2015-2019 and Deputy Minister from 2014-2015. His tenure there saw the completion and expansion of key projects such as the mass transit system in Bangkok, the inter-city double track railways, the high speed rail; the lifting of the ICAO red flag in 2017; as well as a renewed focus on the issues of road safety.
From 2010-2015, H.E. Arkhom headed the National Economic and Social Development Board (NESDB), the key agency on planning and formulation of development strategies in Thailand, which he first joined in 1979. During his time at NESDB, he played a key role in many infrastructure development projects and the formulation of vital development strategies for the nation following the philosophy of a sufficiency economy.
Before moving to the Ministry of Transport, H.E. Arkhom served on the board of directors at leading state-owned enterprises such as PTT Public Company Limited, Airports of Thailand Public Company Limited, and Thai Smile Airways Company Limited. He also led collaborations with neighboring countries in cross-border infrastructure projects to connect the Greater Mekong Subregional Economic Cooperation (GMS) countries, eventually becoming the Master Plan on ASEAN Connectivity.
